Getting to Discovery, whether you’re coming from Missoula, Butte or Helena, isn’t much of a trek. 95% of the trip is on a major highway or interstate. Plus, the road from Georgetown Lake is plowed and well maintained.
If you’re flying into Western Montana, you’ll find three convenient options. Butte’s Bert Mooney Airport is 50 miles away and serviced by Delta and Alaska/Horizon Airlines, connecting through Salt Lake City and Seattle, respectively. The Missoula International Airport is 100 miles from Discovery. Delta, Alaska/Horizon, United, Northwest and Allegiant Air offer connecting services through Salt Lake City, Seattle, Denver, Minneapolis and Las Vegas. The Bozeman Yellowstone Airport is 124 miles away and serviced by Alaska, Allegiant, Delta, Frontier and United with connecting services through Salt Lake City, Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Driving from the East
Take Interstate 90 to exit 208 onto Highway 1 west toward Anaconda (8 miles). Continue west on Highway 1 for 20 miles to Georgetown Lake. Turn right (north) at the Discovery Ski Area and St. Timothy’s Chapel signs. Continue north for 4.5 miles to the ski area.
Driving from the West
Take Interstate 90 to exit 153 onto Highway 1 east toward Philipsburg (26 miles). Remain on Highway 1 past Philipsburg towards Georgetown Lake. Two miles past the Georgetown Lake dam turn left (north) at the Discovery Ski Area and St. Timothy’s Chapel signs. Continue north for 4.5 miles to the ski area.
