DISCOVERY SKI CLUB & RACE TEAM

The Discovery Ski Club and Race Team is a non-profit parent-run organization that provides technical training for kids, promotes enjoyment of the sport, and builds confidence. We welcome all kids who love to ski and want to improve their skills. For kids ages 5-16, we offer:

• An experienced coaching staff working with small groups
• Two great programs that emphasize all-mountain skiing or race training
• A race team
• The chance to participate in USSA sponsored events
• An opportunity for all skiers to demonstrate their skills in citizen races at Discovery Ski Area.

Enhanced Ski Program (ESP)
This 9-week program is perfect for young skiers (age 5-13) eager to improve their skills and to become life-long all-mountain skiers.  Participants should be able to manage equipment and clothing, load the chairlift, and ski independently.

Learn to Race
This is a 11-week program designed for all-mountain skiers (age 7-13) who want to see what racing is all about.  Skiers will learn racing basics through drills and directed free-sking.  Participants can test their skills at a kids-oriented fun race and enter USSA sanctioned races.  This will usually include a USSA race held at Discovery (if one is scheduled) and\or the Youth Ski League (YSL) championship race.  USSA membership is required to compete in sanctioned events.

Discovery Alpine Race Team (DART)
This program emphasizes race training and conditioning through instructional drills as well as focused free-skiing. Members may participate in USSA sanctioned events in Montana with a USSA membership. No race experience is necessary, but participants should be competent and confident all-mountain skiers (age 8 to 16).

DISCOVERY FREESTYLE TEAM

The Discovery Freestyle Team is run by Discovery Ski Area and designed skiers 8 to 18 who are looking to learn the sport of freestyle or become serious competitors we are starting the Discovery Freestyle Team. Members will be coached by former Northern Division Freestyle athletes and have the opportunity to compete against the regions best. This is perfect for skiers looking to take the talents to another more refined level or get into freestyle competitions or members of the ESP program who are looking to an alternative to racing.

The program has a primary focus on mogul skiing, but will also teach skills in the terrain park and big mountain freestyle.  You must be able to ski or ride intermediate and advanced terrain but you don’t need freestyle experience. Helmets are required for the program and available for purchase in the Discovery store or for rent in our rental center.

The program begins January 5th and runs every Saturday concluding on March 23rd. The cost of the program includes a season pass at Discovery (if you already have a pass please let us know and we will credit that purchase toward the program), the mandatory USSA membership which includes supplemental health insurance, and coaching fees.

You can sign up anytime between Thanksgiving and Jan 1st at our ski school.
